Mechanism & Neuroendocrine Impact

GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) act on central and peripheral targets involved in energy balance. Centrally, GLP-1Rs in the hypothalamus and brainstem (e.g., area postrema/nucleus tractus solitarius) reduce hunger and enhance satiety signaling; they also interact with mesolimbic reward circuitry (dopamine pathways), which can attenuate cue-driven food seeking and cravings. Peripherally, slowed gastric emptying and pancreatic effects (glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppression of glucagon) contribute to glycemic control and reduced caloric intake.

Route Considerations (EazeTabâ„¢ Buccal ODT)
Buccal administration provides systemic exposure without GI transit or first-pass hepatic metabolism. In practice, this route can support earlier systemic availability compared with swallowed oral dosing and may help patients perceive earlier satiety signals, subject to individual variability and prescriber-directed titration. Compared with subcutaneous injection, buccal delivery avoids needle use and injection-site considerations and does not rely on depot absorption from subcutaneous tissue; systemic exposure results from transmucosal uptake. Dosing is prescribed on an every-5-day interval.
